The Arizona Teacher Residency is a two-year program that prepares recent college graduates from any degree program and mid-career switchers to be effective classroom teachers.

The program’s mission is to recruit, prepare, support, and retain a more effective, caring, and competent K–12 teaching force, who better reflects the students they serve in Title-1 schools in Phoenix and rural areas, thereby helping to mitigate the teacher shortage.

The two-year program provides aspiring teachers with in-classroom experience, living stipends, a tuition free master’s degree, and a job at a partnering school district. In exchange, residents commit to serving in the partner district in which they were trained for a minimum of 3 years.

The brief was to develop a logo that set the tone for the brand going forward.

The sun radiates hope, energy, and aspiration as well as represents Arizona.

The blue and gold match the parent organizations’ (Arizona K¬–12 Center, Northern Arizona University, and Arizona Department of Education) brand colors. The addition of orange and a vibrant pink elevate the energy and provide a youthful feel to engage recent college graduates.

The typeface (Trend Hand, designed by Daniel Hernández and Paula Nazal Selaive) was selected from LatinoType.com because inclusivity and representation are values of the brand.
