I recommended that the 26 Kyrene schools have an overhaul on their logos. Each school previously had logos that were individually designed but lacked a consistent brand look. Those 26 designs were made to have that consistent brand in shape and typeface using a current mascot icon, and some were brand new mascot designs. These logos were also branded on their websites, Facebook, digital newsletters, stationery, and various collateral pieces.
The purpose was to create brand consistency among all 26 school sites. The branding was a challenge as each school had a different style, typeface and color palette. By taking the existing mascots and placing them within a circular format and choosing a shared typeface, the goal to give the schools that desired consistency was met. At the same time, preserving the mascot identity which the schools had been using for several years. This also enabled each of the digital and print platforms to also have a cohesive design allowing the community to more easily recognize the individual schools as part of the Kyrene School District.

I really enjoy working as a communications designer within an educational organization. This position gives me a renewed appreciation for some of the foundations of design/creativity such as innovation, intuition, creative and critical thinking. It is rewarding to be part of a larger mission that supports student growth and achievement. For the 2020 year so far—it’s been quite a journey with many adjustments and new ways of doing things. It’s been amazing to see how quickly everyone responded and adapted to the pandemic while successfully converting to an online learning platform!
