At Northern Arizona University, students walk and ride along the campus pedway to get from one location on campus to another. The pedway runs alongside the University Union, where there is a post for up to four upcoming event informational banners to be hung up for display. When there are not any upcoming events, placeholder banners get displayed instead.

The four placeholder banners that we have had for the past several years needed to be updated, and thus this project was born. Each previous banner featured a landscape illustration paired with an inspiring message written from our mascot, Louie the Lumberjack.

The updated illustration style features a graphic collage thematic to each banner, accompanied by new messages that not only inspire, but also direct students and staff to various campus resources. Additionally, a QR code is integrated for those seeking additional information on each resource.

This project was unique for its wider creative flexibility fused with elements of NAU's usually strict brand guidelines, and was a major push for my personal illustration abilities. As a designer, digital illustration remains an area where I continually strive for improvement, and this project served as a valuable opportunity for honing those skills. The final products of this project are ones that I am incredibly proud of, and I believe they visually connect with the college student demographic.
