Resurrection

After taking a 3-year hiatus from hosting in-person events during the COVID-19 pandemic, Modern Phoenix was eager to launch back into tourism with their celebrated Midcentury Modern Home Tour in 2023. Illustrator Alison King took the opportunity to evoke the vintage energy of a psychedelic '60s gig poster in style, color, format, and even the titling of the event. Her fiery geometric Phoenix with outstretched wings drew inspiration from the iconic Paul Coze mural of a Phoenix at Sky Harbor as well as his sculpture of the same at Town and Country shopping center. Alison had long wanted to create her own version of a Phoenix as an homage our city’s enduring spirit; the thawing of the pandemic seemed the right time for Modern Phoenix to come out blazing.
